How do you start your day?

Well I have a one year old and an 8 year old. Mornings are little nuts. However, it is very important to me to do my minimum yoga and meditation practice. If I’m lucky, If the baby stays asleep after I get out of bed (he sleeps with me), then I get to do a full yoga and meditation session (about an hour). When I get that, I feel amazing. But if he wakes up with me, then the 8 year old wakes up too, and it’s a juggling session of making breakfasts and lunches, showering kids, and general ridiculous insanity until I sit down and breathe deeply and do my yoga practice with the baby crawling on me ! Still works though ; ) . Breath, movement and mantra are magical tools that always bring me to the center of myself no matter what. So that even on the juggling act mornings, I can still help myself “show up” in a good way for Life. Or at least try my best !!!

What do you do when you are overwhelmed or stressed?

Breathe deeply and slowly, listen to mantra, sing mantra, and try to get as much sleep as possible!

What gives you the feeling of true bliss within?

Many things! Everything! Life does. Whether or not I feel bliss is more about what I’m feeling on the inside, rather than what’s going on around me. When I feel relaxed and in balance physically, mentally, and spiritually, then I feel very grounded and present in my life, in all my relationships. Then I can see and feel everything that happens in my life with gratitude and love. And the feeling of bliss goes deeper to include not only the joy, but the challenges as well.

What are you currently reading?

I’m not reading anything right now actually. But I am watching some great TV shows intermittently when I have time! Picasso, Game of Thrones, Marco Polo, Jessica Jones etc. When the kids are in bed I like to just unplug and drink some golden milk and be entertained for a bit

What are you listening to right now?

Well right now my baby is asleep so I’m listening to an amazing app called Brain.fm! It has ambient music that has been scientifically developed to help induce different mental states. The “sleep” one helps my whole family have deeper and better sleep. I also find it helpful to meditate to, because it helps to bypass the conscious mind. In general my favorite things to listen to would be way too long to list here, but some artists include: The Fretless, Snatam Kaur, Aukai, Todd Boston, Matthew Schoening, Karnamrita Dasi, Adele, Shankar Tucker, Loreena Mckennit, Jai Uttal... off the top of my head.

What does nourishment look like to you?

Nourishment to me looks like feeling relaxed and at peace. Cooking a meal for my family while listening to awesome music, and then eating it with them while they are happy and loving it. It looks like breathing deeply in the fresh morning air while I do my yoga practice and feeling my mind calm and my body alive. It looks like drinking a hot cup of golden milk while snuggling with my husband, talking about something true for us, with deep and heartfelt connection. It looks like being in a group of women, meditating and praying and sharing our spirit with one another.

How do you make space for play?

I take it where I can get it! I could be better at this.  But for now I just make it with my baby. I take those sweet moments with him and his impossibly delicious and joyful little smile! He is so much fun!!

What are some favorite mantras you cling to?

Ad guray nameh, Mul mantra, Ik Ong kaar satigur prasaad satigur prasaad Ik Ong kaar... so many more!!

Please share some words of wisdom you’ve learned over the years.

God is always continually making my own ideas of wisdom obsolete. Life always brings me gifts. I just have to work on taking care of myself well enough to receive, integrate, and share them with love. Gratitude and humble prayer are the most powerful tools I have learned. ESPECIALLY smack in the middle of the hardest times. The most joy I have ever felt has been born from those two things.
