Jocelyn Gordon: Yogini and Birth Keeper

Jocelyn Gordon Illuminated Sun Prayer Wanderlust Stratton 2019 Profile.jpg

How do you start your day?

I start my day with oil pulling (I love that I have integrated this into my daily routine!), moving my spine with the flow of the HoopYogini™ Spinal Awakening Series, getting into a headstand for 3 to 5 minutes, showing at some point within this flow and having a smoothie with 8oz of water, fruit, my favorite immune boosting superfood powder and a healthy dose of seamoss and bladderack powder (sea vegetables with high levels of minerals).

What do you do when you are overwhelmed or stressed?

I am learning that I just can't afford the chemical response and release of toxins that come with overwhelm, worry, and negative thoughts. When I am triggered or brooding on a thought or situation, I can literally feel shifts in my immune system. After a beautiful yet intense postpartum journey, I can no longer "afford" to linger in the realms of stress and self-doubt. When faced with these occasional realities, I see them as a call to deepen my self-care, to respect my body and feelings as a barometer of my truth and to ensure that I am in environments where I feel safe and appreciated.

What gives you the feeling of true bliss within?

Dance gives me the feeling of true bliss within. Dance is how I pray and is my direct connection with Spirit.

What are you currently reading?

I am re-reading "Yoga Anatomy" by Leslie Kaminoff, which is required reading within my 200hr HoopYogini™ Yoga Teacher Training. I'm preparing to read "Do Less" by Kate Northrup.

What are you listening to right now?

The audiobook version of Anita Moorjani's "Dying To Be Me."

What does nourishment look like to you?

Nourishment looks like high and healthy levels of self-love that lead to conscious choices around the foods I consume, the people I'm with, and how I direct my energy. Nourishment includes doing the things I love (dance! teaching! travel!) and sharing my gifts and being of service so I don't get caught up in my own "stuff".

How do you make space for play?

I hoop and practice HoopYogin™. I play with my 3-year-old amazing daughter and I travel, which always inspires feelings of adventure and serendipity.

What are some favorite mantras you cling to?

I release control and surrender to the flow of love that will heal me (Alexa Sunshine Rose) | asato ma sadgamaya tamaso ma jyotirgamaya mrtyorma amrtam gamaya om shanti shanti shanti. Lead me from the unreal to the real. Lead me from darkness to light. Lead me from death to immortality Om Peace Peace Peace.

Please share some words of wisdom you've learned over the years.

The human condition is filled with moments of forgetfulness. We should not condemn ourselves or others for these moments. Make your practice the awareness of when you are out of alignment - out of the moment - and return over and over again to the present, to the Presence, to your Essence and the pure essence that exists within and around you.

And, giving someone your most authentic presence will always outweigh any material goods. Life is so utterly precious, so the giving of yourself to your loved ones is the best gift you can offer. Presence is everything.
