Moons of Spring: Full Flower Moon

Look to the flowers and the way they show themselves to the world, fully, with no guarantees. In fact, the only guarantee they have is that they will fall from their branches and return to the earth, only to do the cycle over again.

Gorgeous May!

A month of poetry and song, of love affairs and dreams. On May 3 comes the Full Flower Moon, a moon named after the abundance of bloom and blossom that occurs at this time of year. There is no denying it now—where there might have been some slowness in April, May takes over with a convincing force. Flowers will bloom in earnest now, all of them, all over. The sun is closer to us now, and so the coolness and moderation of April is only a memory, filed away in our mental books of time.

As the sun heats up and the flowers open, the energies shift in a very real way. The momentum is gathering, and it is an exciting time. Feel free to hitch your wagon to the speed and force of May, as it’s an energy of creation and optimism. The joy of freshness and of birth is ripe. It infiltrates our communities, and smiles spread.

Whereas April was a time for preparation, May is show time. Look to the flowers and the way they show themselves to the world, fully, with no guarantees. In fact, the only guarantee they have is that they will fall from their branches and return to the earth, only to do the cycle over again. This defies all linear thinking, and it is an inspiring perspective.

During the full moon, again we consider the May energy in regards to the fertility of the full moon. Some key words are: celebration, joy, laughter, courage. This is a great time to share ideas and to speak up about something you’ve been considering. By putting it to words, it will begin to come to fruition. Lavish yourself with early fruits that might be appearing at the market, and make sure to turn your face toward the sun for a few moments in the morning as part of your routine. These things will feed your spirit, and your spirit is ripe. If you pay attention, you may feel an undercurrent of desire and hope, of determined optimism. Use this! This is in the air and it belongs to all of us. However this shows up in your day-to-day, let it in and look at it.

Ritual:

Flowers, flowers, flowers. Today is a day to celebrate fullness, color, joy, and potential. Today you must give yourself flowers. If you want to go out and pick them, do it. Gather them into a bouquet and place them in a jar on your table. If you want to go to the market and buy one (or several) bouquets, this is also perfect. Fill your space with them as much as you can justify, and then maybe a bit more beyond that.  Give your self as many flowers as you can today, for this moon is loving you and applauding your existence.
